Afton property rezoned

Afton City Council approved the rezoning of a property, located at 13305 15th Street South, from agricultural preserve to agricultural during its April 17 meeting.
Afton resident Karen Sotzman applied for the rezoning.
The 80-acre property had previously been used for dairy farming and roughly 65 acres of the property were entered into the city’s agricultural preserve program in the 1950s.
The agricultural preserve program requires that properties be used for agricultural purposes and remain undeveloped.
In 1997 the 65 acres were taken out of the agricultural preserve program, but the rezoning never occurred as it doesn’t automatically happen.
