From a brain freeze experiment to homemade Angry Birds, the Royal Oaks Elementary School science fair was filled with clever innovations.

A number of students received ribbons for their projects at the event that was held Tuesday, Jan. 17.

A group of fifth graders had an elaborate brain scan presented with a medical imaging device they borrowed from a professional to explain what happens in a brain freeze.

The group, consisting of Claire O’Keefe, Sara Dahlger, Jade Boisjoli and Laykyn Hughes, received a blue ribbon.

Others tested which M&M color melts the fastest, which Angry Bird flies the furthest, why oil and water don’t mix, how to make a volcano eruption and the science behind 3D imaging.

The science fair drew a number of proud parents and visitors who enjoyed learning about the various projects.
